Our effectiveness as leaders depends not only on what we do and how we do it, but also on the inner place from where we operate, both individually and collectively.
-Otto Scharmer, author, Theory U

The movers and shakers on our planet aren't the billionaires and the generals -they are the incredible numbers of people around the world filled with love for neighbor and for the earth who are resisting, remaking, restoring, renewing, revitalizing. -Bill McKibben

Rethinking Leadership
It's never too early (or to late) to think about your legacy as a leader.

We all know someone in either our personal or professional lives that we remember, admire and want to emulate as leaders. As we strive to do so, we are challenged daily to be true to those qualities that we value and cherish, to be true to ourselves and our vision, to not sell out or lower our standards - especially when the going gets rough.

I am humbled by the many of you who, in these tough economic times, have sought coaching for either yourself or your teams. Some of you have chosen individual coaching for support as you confront the difficult decisions of layoffs and rebuilding your team, while others have chosen team coaching to get your team ready and able to seize the opportunities that this new climate and economy present. Today's challenging climate has also brought many of you to personal strategic planning as a way to reinvent yourself or rekindle your passion, and to collaborative planning to recharge your team.

I want to take this moment to thank each and every one of you for your continued support and confidence in my abilities. I am truly humbled and honored to be able to serve you.

Personal Strategic Planning: Finding Meaning in Your Personal and Professional Life
Free Teleclass

I will be offering a Personal Strategic Planning teleclass on June 10th from noon to 1PM EST. The teleclass will be an introduction to Personal Strategic Planning and how to use the PSP template to create you own roadmap for success.

Since its launch in 2005, PSP has been used by hundreds of my clients - leaders starting out, mid-career leaders, and those contemplating their legacy and what's next. PSP has also become a practical tool for those of you who have been laid off, those of you who see today as an opportunity for creating your tomorrow, and those of you in too many different walks and phases of life to mention here.

Congratulations Yale CARES!DTC
Two years ago, I facilitated a community conference for the Yale School of Medicine designed to bring together stakeholders from both the University and the New Haven community to create a vision and plan to use research-related resources to improve the health of the New Haven community. Following that conference, CARE, the Community Alliance for Research and Development, opened its doors supporting a host of collaborative initiatives and they continue to do so despite these economic times. CARE just learned that New Haven was selected to be one of 3 sites to implement the Health Equity Index, an index that recognizes that the root causes of health include broad social and economic factors, a key topic emerging during the conference.

What Recent Clients are Saying:

During the last 6 months, I have had to lay off a number of my direct reports. Working with Denise has helped me to be the leader I aspire to be, even in these difficult times, and to support and lead my team - without platitudes.

        Director, Fortune 100

This month I accomplished 3 things that I never thought I would do: 1. Finishing my first-ever half marathon, 2 Skiing down the top of Mammoth Mountain, and 3. Getting accepted into the doctoral program at USC.  Even a year ago, if you had told me I was going to do any one of those things, I would have laughed at you. I really feel that visualizing things helped make things happen, and allowed me to believe in myself enough to pursue my dreams. You're the best, Denise!

Rethinking Leadership.....
Bus Strategy coverAs organizations become more global, more complex, and more fluid, the need for new leaders and a different type of leader becomes more essential. Today's world calls for leaders who not only know the business, but also who possess the mindset and understand the intricacies and politics of the complex world in which they are now called to lead and manage. This new type of leader - not only the best and the brightest - but also the inspired and inspirational, the collaborator and relationship builder - is now taken for granted as a critical component of the new leadership architecture of the twenty-first century. Faced with an ever-widening need for new leadership, organizations must rethink their strategies to assure a qualified pool of leaders for tomorrow. This article explores some of the ways currently being employed to do just that.
